Heaven is Not the Point
Pastor Dan challenges the popular “escape room” theology that views the earth as a disposable test and heaven as the ultimate prize. He argues that this mindset often leads believers to “check out” of their earthly responsibilities, treating care for others as optional while waiting for an afterlife exit. Drawing from the teachings of Jesus and the Lord’s Prayer, Pastor Dan emphasizes that the gospel is not an “exit strategy” but a “restoration strategy” intended to bring the kingdom of heaven down to earth through acts of love, mercy, and justice.
Moving beyond abstract theology, Pastor Dan calls for the church to address the “wounded and sick” state of the modern evangelical movement, specifically critiquing its silence on systemic injustices and the protection of the powerful at the expense of the vulnerable. He shares a personal account of a roadside emergency to illustrate how easily we can become bystanders to the pain around us. Ultimately, he urges his congregation to embrace a “righteous anger” against injustice and to refocus their faith on the life and ministry of Jesus: healing the broken, centering the poor, and actively working to transform the world here and now.
